Voting is now open for this year’s St Albans Food and Drink Festival.
Residents can now choose their favourite restaurant, café, pub, bar and local producer in the district.
Mayor of St Albans Councillor Eileen Harris said: "The festival is now in its fifth year and is a wonderful event that showcases a fantastic range of food and drink produced in St Albans."
The winner of each category will be announced during the festival, which begins on Wednesday, September 26.

Countdown to St Albans Food and Drink Festival

Visitors can tickle their taste buds at the St Albans Food and Drink Festival, which gets underway this month to celebrate the food and drink scene in the city.

Now in its fifth year, the festival promises to give residents a chance to experience diverse tastes during the festival events.

The festival will kick off on Wednesday, September 26, with the city's annual beer festival, which promises 350 different British real ales in the Alban Arena .

Course set up to help adults with children with special needs will begin next week in St Albans school

The seven week course will start on Wednesday (September 12) to help parents with a child or children who have special needs.

The aim of the course is to allow parents to share their feelings and experiences and to help with the challenges they might have.

The course will take place in Fleetville Junior School, in Hatfield Road, from 7pm to 9pm.

Chance to have your say on Harpenden library plans

Residents in Harpenden will have the chance to give their opinions on plans to move Harpenden library to a new location.

A planning application has been put forward by Hertfordshire County Council to move the library in Vaughn Road to a shop building in 27 High Street, which used to be an Argos store.

Volunteers Needed for Giant Monopoly

The St Albans Giant Monopoly event is now in its 5th year. It involves participants visiting up to 20 different checkpoints around the City Centre and Verulamium Park and taking part in different activities at the checkpoints. Last year we had 1150 participants and this year we are hoping for 1250.

St Albans Giant Monopoly is taking place on Sunday 9th September from 11am to 5pm.

Volunteers are needed to help to man some of the check points at landmarks along the rout from 10.30am to 5.30pm. Prior to the Game Day, you will help with leafleting in the City Centre, as well as attending a briefing meeting at SAASH's offices. So come along, volunteer, get involved in the community, get to know your City better and participate in the most exciting project of the Autumn!

Volunteers need to bring clothing appropriate to the weather, e.g.sunscreen/waterproofs/brollies/wellies!

Beach volleyball courts for Verulamium Park

Now that the games are over, some of the sand used in Horse Guards Parade will be moved to Verulamium Park to create new beach volleyball courts.
Councillor Mike Wakely, portfolio holder for sports, leisure and heritage at the council, said: "We are pleased that the council’s bid has been successful and that Verulamium Park has been chosen as one of the six venues to receive the Olympic sand.
